1. me : blurring the line btwn dark and light, the soft flow with her hard and (always) militant voice. when preaching the gospel of JP she is serious and unshaking.; and when she begs you to “let her flow” you’ll forgive her for flowing already without our permission. The weird this about this song is that she says shes talking about herself, but it easily becomes an anthem for woc (a pattern on this album). One thing you have to know: JP loves to drop mystical, femme powered knowledge bombs on the listener when they least expect it. It’s like being splashed with cool water in the middle of the very long run to gender equality in hip hop.
“what would i do without brandy foxy kim missy patra and erica proof their can be more than one without replicas. truth in the booth you can read through my retinas”
She also like to let woc know she feels their pain here and throughout the album.:
“whats a girl to do when the world is against you? throw it in their face show the world that you meant to”
She also promotes a lot of healthy behavior here and throughout her album; proving a foul mouth doesn’t keep you from being a role model.
“life is sweet fruits are the earths candy(hmmm)”
“open my mind before I open my thighs
can’t fuck with the format say your goodbyes”:
She , like many aa women with natural hair, wears weaves and defies the notion that they are sign one doesn’t love their heritage. JP is a feminist, and spokesperson for alll the jungle babes ,if any others exist
“ i just want to be free, swinging my titties from tree to tree...looking good without a weave”
if you’re a girl in a tight bra you know this definition of freedom, but it could also be symbolic for a womanist rooted type of body acceptance that only proves JP is on some other shit.
2. Satisfaction Guaranteed: IMO, the titular song is the perfect introduction to the tropical vacation that is this album. “Rum Spice” hits the listener like a coconut malibu infused shot of reggae.
3.Kick It : After “Yeezus” I feel like polygamy got a huge boost in the hip hop (and vicariously), w and moc. So JP’s demands for honest and monogamous relationships are another sip of mango tea on her tropical journey. She isn’t afraid to acknowledge that big problems start small, esp if your “not with that shit”.
4. ready 4 action : If JP is the the militant, tropical trap savior she appears then this song is the music they would play to recruit you into her army. right away, JP presents her case for being your leader:
1. she dresses so good everyone wants to wear what she wears (eh :/)
2. she has a good soul ( thats...pretty cool)
3. “representing for the people in the jungle thats feeling me
the hummer or indo-g;bahamas or in jersey
the holy homie everywhere call me the trinity”( oh ok )
Hair comment: “crusty lace front glue and you know that shit
push the wig back pulled out afro pick
combing my shit out watching moesha on centrix”
5. Fuck Texting is the albums break up track and feeds into any slighted woman's biggest vice: ruining the offenders possession/ "fucking shit up"
"Think I'm a let any dude screw me over, I'm a key your car, bleach your kicks before the night is over. dowse your weed in baking soda . take your stash cash and blow it all playing poker."
Before you accuse her of being petty, vengeful and "over emotional" I'll have to warn you that she probably doesn't care.
"It's my world you can't do what you want. I pay your phone bill every month. Back this ass up every day and I give you space unless I'm feeling some type of way. like today. better pray, lay low motherfucker crazy bitch coming your way, straight. "
6. Want Some More : The bells and gongs let you know that JP is serving something up with this track. It's time for a taste of her free styling skills and who know what else. Her voice on the hook is rubbery and seductive like a vinyl catsuit. Her inner dominatrix and outer artist can both be heard on this track.
7. Picky Bitch Checklist was one of the first songs by JP that I was hooked to when it was (still is) posted originally by JP herself on her Soundcloud account. Another one of her themes arises here: "pay to play" one of the few cliches JP allows herself.
"stfu and look sexy, all you gotta do is stfu and just sex me, when I ask for it stfu and throw money"
She's not all about money though, she craves romance and partnership.
"Dilly dally ass niggas can't do nothing for me. No cash having ass can't do nothing for me. I wanna slow dance in the street like Nelly and Kelly. Lay up witchu in the bed roll up the weed on my belly. Be the background/screensaver on ya celly."
But she's still all about the paper, obviously.
8. Curve Em's chorus sounds like the chant before a battle.
9. Nah is the only track on the album that sampled a rock song, one that I can't identify ( if you can, please share!!!!). It's slow but not overtly sexual like some of the other songs on the album. This song combines her own flavors of sexual braggadocio and militantish feminism.
Healthy Line: "I seen you in Mickey D's knew you didn't love yourself. I'm up in Trader Joes shopping cart full of health."
10. Bling Bling had JP sounding like a drill sergeant in a boot camp for women with trifling men. Regardless of how good your significant other is, this banger is definitely worth a listen. Her sped up verse at the end is enlightening.
11. Mi Nuh Care: JP kills an entire song in patois, working her tropical angle.
